The Nursing Director for the Labor & Delivery and Antepartum units directs and oversees all aspects of operations, and financial management for inpatient and outpatient services at Hoag Newport and its affiliates and works with business development and marketing to achieve the hospital goals. The position has administrative oversight of the overall fiscal performance and program development of related services. The Nursing Director will create, interpret, modify and execute any relevant fiscal policies and procedures. Works in conjunction with the Vice President of Operations and Senior Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer to develop the vision and goals for the Nursing Department. Achieves annual goals as outlined. Functions as a clinical expert, consultant, liaison, researcher, educator and leader to plan patient care and ensure optimal patient care outcomes. Utilizes the nursing process based on research and evidence-based outcomes. Leads by example. Drives innovation. Exhibits a "can-do" attitude. Responsible for the administrative, personnel, financial, quality management and patient care activities of nursing units on a twenty-four (24) hour basis to achieve position outcomes. Ensures that quality nursing and patient care is delivered to all patients on the units in accordance with professional and regulatory standards, and the philosophy and goals of the hospital. Implements patient care standards, effective staff orientation and continuing education programs. Evaluates staff in accordance with performance expectations and mutually establish goals. Designs and directs a comprehensive quality improvement program. Develops, implements and maintains budget. Effectively oversees payroll and non-payroll expenses. Essential Functions : Clinical Responsibilities and Patient Services Works closely with hospital administration, centers of excellence, business development and performance improvement staff to collaborate and develop business planning and strategic development initiatives. Ensures patient care is delivered and the unit is maintained in accordance with professional regulatory standards. Demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate population as outlined in the job description and competencies. Assures that nursing and ancillary staff are following policy, procedures, and scope of practice. Identifies and provides necessary staff education and orientation. Provides support and direction for staff in supporting and understanding organizational and health care changes. Validates and evaluates competency of licensed and unlicensed staff and of external staff resources in clinical specialties. Identifies patient and/or care delivery problems and corrects any deficits. Commitment to meeting patient expectations as demonstrated by the patient satisfaction data. Complies with all patient safety goals of the organization. Position requires meetings and rounding outside of normal business hours including evenings/nights and/or weekends Clinical Care: Ensure that quality patient care is delivered to all patients on a 24-hour basis, and the unit is maintained in accordance with professional and regulatory standards and the philosophy and goals of Hoag. Perform other duties as assigned. Education, Training and Experience Required: Bachelors of Science in Nursing. Preferred: Masters of Science in Nursing. Skills or Other Qualifications Required: Knowledge of principles and methods involved in education, orientation, evaluations and supervision. Ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively with all levels of staff. Ability and willingness to lead by example. Demonstrated ability in problem-solving, decision making, strategic planning, budgeting, forecasting, concepts of business growth, marketing and communication. Must exhibit effective negotiation, coaching and conceptual thinking skills. Possesses analytical skills necessary to gather and interpret quantitative and qualitative data relevant to patient care and personnel problems. Able to demonstrate interpersonal and problem-solving skills necessary to interact with patients, families, physicians and co-workers. Willingness to do whatever it takes to the get the job done. Preferred: License and Certifications Required: Currently licensed to practice as a Registered Nursing in California. BLS certification must be completed prior to Hospital orientation. *LI-SK1
